Ishawna fans will remember that back in 2017 the artist remixed Ed Sheeran “Shape of You” song into her own version: the sex anthem called “Equal Rights”, that beside the controversy climbed Jamaican dancehall charts topping at #1 for several weeks.
Ishawna’s version was openly talking about woman and oral sex, something that is still taboo in the Caribbean.
Few days ago the Jamaican female dancehall artist announced she has a song with Ed Sheeran.
Their connection developed in November last year, Ishawna had disclosed that she and the Grammy-winning UK artist Ed Sheeran were teaming up for a collaboration after he did an interview on Half cast Podcast, where he had spoken about working with Ishawna after listening to her filthy version, and he said he liked her version of “Shape of You.”
“Ishawna’s got me singing patois with her and I was like ‘I don’t know’ and she was like ‘trust me, Kingston slang, they’re gonna f**king love it’, I’m actually going to record my bits after this,” Ed Sheeran said laughing with the host ChuckieOnline.
Sheeran never made a secret of wanted to collaborate with a Jamaican artist as he told about loving reggae music and Jamaican culture in past interviews.
Ishawna has been able to bring the popular singer onto the dancehall side of things and singing in patois!
Ishawna had also teased that after Ed Sheeran‘s interview, she had got in touch with the artist and announced their new upcoming music together.
On her IG Ishawna wrote
“Was trying soooo hard to keep this a secret but since Ed Sheeran has let the cat out of the bag, it’s only right I share the good news!!!!,” she wrote.
“It’s official guys!!! Ed Sheeran & Ishawna collab coming soon.”
She had also previously shared in an Instagram Story,
“Thank you for trusting me, just as much as I trust you! I can’t wait for the world to hear what we have in store.”
