Vybz Kartel aka the Teacha is in jail.

On Thursday night, the artist, whose real name is Adijah Palmer, was charged with illegal possession of ganja after the flying squad conducted a major operation in a hotel in New Kingston.

Vybz Kartel was detained, along with a woman and two men, who have also been charged with the same crime. Yesterday  the police investigators also raided two St. Andrew homes believed to be owned by Addi. Escorted by heavily armed members of the security forces, the Jamaican Dancehall deejay was also taken to several other premises in St Catherine, that were  also searched.

Vybz Kartel was arrested  and most of the details are still unknown and can’t be revelead at this time, as Ealan Powell, Head of the Central Bureau Of Investigations, explained to the press.

The searches were part of a largest investigation in a case in which they think Vybz Kartel may be involved. Police will provide more details in this investigation next week.

Vybz Kartel‘s lawyer, Christian Tavares-Finson, says his client was asked to cooperate with the police and he will be questioned on Monday.

Meanwhile LIME, the communication company that sponsors Kartel’s reality show’s, Teacha ‘s Pet, is taking some time to see how the situation develops.

The Jamaican Police spokeperson says this is one of many arrests that will be made.

“We have an interest in at least 10 other members of the entertainment industry, some of whom have been implicated in a number of murders and shootings,”

While not disclosing the identity of the other entertainers  the senior officer stressed that these are persons with strong connections to major criminal gangs in the island. He also disclosed that some of these entertainers have been implicated in gun running. The Police press conference will be held next week.

This is not the first time Vybz Kartel has problems with the law: last year in  July, he spent two weeks in jail after he was named as a person of interest by the Jamaica Constabulary Force and in 2008, he was jailed for days. Free Teacha.
